When our new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese shared insights into his life growing up in social housing, we were invited into an experience – not just of what he stands for, but how those values and vision were forged. In drawing on his roots, he connected us again with our own life stories – inviting us to become more grounded in our place in the world.
So while there is much to be said about the change that is in the air and how we might step into this space as leaders, for today let’s start with these questions:
- What is your own life story? (Choose one formative experience that stands out for you).
- What did this experience teach you?
- What do you value as a result? How are you living these values in the world today?
As an executive coach, I support leaders to reveal their authentic story and to discover the power contained within it. Our life stories hold the DNA to our potential and clues to the missions we have come to serve.
Your own life story is one of your greatest assets when you know how to interpret it. At times this means deepening the insights we already hold, while at other times it means looking at adversity through fresh eyes, to discover our strength and tenacity.
Once we understand our story, when we begin to relate to it ourselves, we can share it with others – inspiring them to reveal their sense of purpose and meaning.

The importance of optimism and hope can’t be underestimated.
